Oodles of Doodles is for children ages 4 – 5 years old led by an Occupational Therapist & a Speech-Language Pathologist. This camp focuses on:

* Participating & following simple directions in a group setting

* Language enrichment: expressive/receptive

* Grasp development: holding a crayon correctly & positioning scissors effectively

* Forming pre-writing strokes, shapes & uppercase letters correctly

* Visual motor skills: how to draw a person, assemble simple puzzles

* Basic concept terms

* Group participation & socialization with peers

Helpful Hints 2012: To continue our series on the importance of play. #2 Play Switches To Our Creative Side Of The Brain: We have all heard he/she is more right brain oriented or left brain…meaning right brain is creative and left brain is more logical. This theory of the structure and functions of the mind suggests that the two different sides of the brain control two different “modes” of thinking. It also suggests that each of us prefers one mode over the other. To foster a more whole-brained scholastic experience, teachers/parents should use techniques that connect with both sides of the brain. So many people live only in their logical decision making left brain. But our childlike nature, our imagination and often our ability to creatively problem solve is in our other side and play is the bridge there. Play is the foundation of learning.
